During a trip to New Zealand I observed the thermal activity which produced a myriad of natural colours from the minerals and elements in the mudflows. The way the muds oozed from the hot springs seemed like life was being made in a crucible before my eyes, a tangible connection to a primeval past. These pieces are intended to have an almost archaeological feel to them, layer upon layer of time.
